Lalibela, twelfth century. Ethiopian Orthodox cross — the interlaced Lalibela cross, latticed and repeated. Colours: warm ochre and burnt sienna ground, crosses in undyed cream outlined in black. This piece has not been made. It is a studio proposal showing what a collaboration with Selam Tesfaye could look like, drawn in the composition language of the kelaghayi — a border, a medallion, and the motif scattered across the open field.
